This paper proposed the use improved 8 Disciplines Problem Solving Process in mobile phone project quality improvement. The traditional 8 Disciplines Problem Solving Process was used in service only. Because mobile phone project included both product Ship Acceptance and Pilot trial, Phones had already been sold in the market. The early customer complain could be used for phone project quality improvement by applying 8 Disciplines Problem Solving process, in order to prevent more failures in the market.This paper proposed changing the 8 Disciplines Problem Solving process to match real phone quality improvement actions. The paper recommended paralyzing D3 and D4 process. For the most important step D4, the paper separated it into 5 sub-steps, including experiment analyzing, define problem category, record checking, quality tools application and verification. The new process chart could improve the analyzing cycle time.This paper proposed a new concept FMEA-WS, which based on each work station or process only. In real 8D project application, FMEA could provide data input to D3, including failure occurrence frequency, severity and detect/control method. In D7, the related experience collected from 8D could be updated back into DFMEA and FMEA-WS. The sealed improvement circle would make the project quality better. The FMEA-WS was an in-depended record, which ensured all experience was proper recorded. PFMEA for real products will not affect the enterprise experience collection process, but it could collect info from updated FMEA-WS to prevent similar failures in the same work station. Replaced PFMEA for each product, FMEA-WS worked as experience database.Two examples 8D projected followed the new 8D process. It proved the sub-flow in the new 8D process working properly. The 8D finished all steps in 35, which is 10 days reduction compared to customer requirements. Meanwhile, product reliability was improved 5 times by defining the root cause and changing the design. |
