The Study On The Application And Design Of English Situational Teaching

To deal with the universal problems of high time consumption and low efficiency in English teaching and that teachers lay too much emphasis on the teaching of English language knowledge while ignoring the development ofstudents'language using capability。the thesis advocates situational approach,that is, to design an proper language learning situation to improve the students'ability to use the English language by analyzing and experimenting.The research mainly adopts methods of literature study and case study. By extensively reading, analyzing and learning other researchers'and teachers'work on the problem as well as studying a large number of teaching cases and observing other teachers'classes, the writer of the thesis summarizes some characteristics of applying the situational approach in real teaching in class, on which basis, the writer puts forward how to design teaching situations appropriately, together with some principles and ways to enhance the students'comprehensive capability to use English.The thesis includes four parts:Ⅰ. Introduction. Having analyzed the present situation and problems in English language teaching in china, the writer points out some usual problems that teachers put a lot of emphasis on the teaching of English language knowledge but ignores the development of students'ability to use English properly, which leads to the loss of interest in learning English and the students incapability to use English.Ⅱ. Theoretical study. In this part, the writer collects the documentaries of experts home and aboard on designing an appropriate situation for language learning, along with the present researches on the problem in teaching English in high schools.Ⅲ. Some methods of designing language situation. Many approaches can be applied to design a situation for language learning,such as task-based language teaching, the application of multi-media in teaching, and a few other ways.there is no doubt that there will be a lot of difficulties in applying the methods mentioned above. There are always too many students in the same class and students lack the language environment after class. What's more, the teachers'quality is also far from satisfactory. All those factors have effects on designing and applying an appropriate language situation. Due to that, the research still remains to be studied and improved in the future.
