The paper proposes that college English teaching in High Vocational & Technical Education(hereafter abbreviated as HVTE) aims at cultivating the compound talents with professional theoretical knowledge and practical application ability. How to cause the students at each level to show their interests in theoretical professional English and achieve the teaching goal efficiently is the key problem worthy of discussing. After studying Dewey's "education thought", E.Husserl's "life education idea", Tao Xingzhi's "education thought", some research papers and the requirements of courses, author of this paper discovers that researches on "life teaching of English" are mainly limited to elementary school and high school Engdlish teaching, while few has been done on HVTE English teaching, especially professional Endglish teaching, and thus puts forward the idea that "teaching English in the field of real lives " is a good way to promot the effciency of English teaching in HVTE.Writing skills as case analysis, experence summarizing etc. are adopted in composing this paper. Based on a vocational college in Sichuan, combing present situation of professional English teaching in the college with the author's own English teaching experience, the paper hopes to make an attempt to explore "professional English teaching in the field of real lives". Reflecting upon the present situation of English teaching in HVTE. this paper points out that our professional English teaching is far away from students'practical lives and cares little about the cultural background, so students show little interest in it, even worse, some are tired of it. In order to make English teaching attach to real lives and more vivid, the paper proposes the followings strategies: To build the concept of life teaching ; to stimulate students' desire for study by concerning about the contents of life teaching; to arouse students' interests by adopting situational teaching ; to promote students' ability of applying theory to practice by reforming English educational models and the patterns of evaluation. The paper hopes to help the students change English study as their intrinsic need and improve their integrated English language competence; to help English teachers set up the new concept of curriculum resources and improve their teaching and scientific research ability.The paper first presents the background and the significance of this thesis as well as the way of research, and then dates back to the studies of the life teaching of English. The researches on these theories provide adquate grounds of argument to justiy the topic. The next part proposes the definition, the characteristics , and functions of professional English teaching in the field of real life to indicate its necessity.The following focuses on the problems research and the analysis of their causes. On the basis of the present situations on the teachers' teaching ,the students' studies and the school's equipment, the paper points out the importance of professional English teaching in the field of real lives. The last part mainly introduces the strategies of professional English teaching in the field of real lives. This paper gives some examples of teaching contents reform, teaching methods reform, English educational models and patterns of evaluation reform to put the theory into practice. And this paper expects to promote the research of life teaching of English in the future.
