Study About The Present Situation Of The Construction Of The "985" Universities' Counseling Center

The times characterized with the modernization and the highly developed informationtechnology brings some opportunities and challenges to the university and college students.At the same time, pressures from study, economy and employment are becoming largerand larger, which causes the pessimistic status of the college students'mental health. Thestudents'mental health education is arousing the attention of the whole society. More andmore universities are making the greatest efforts to promote the work, several successfulexperiences and visible effects were gained during the process of its exploration. The vastmajority of the universities in china have established its own counseling centers for thepurpose of providing mental services. It is not only the objective requirements of QualityEducation but also the internal demand of the students'Physical and mental healthdevelopment. As the specialized institutions, the university counseling centers play animportant and irreplaceable role in the mental health education in universities, whoseoperational states have a direct relation to the development of the mental health educationin universities.The study formulates the Index-card of the"985-project"universities'counselingcenters by consulting the accreditation standards of The International Association ofCounseling Services (IASC). This research attempts to get a general understanding of the"985-project"universities'counseling centers on the issues including its basic information,faculty construction, system construction and its operating mechanism by investigating theinformation related with the construction and management of the"985-project"universities'counseling centers, coupled with the research methods such as LiteratureAnalysis and Semi-structured interview. And then, we focus the attention on theaccreditation of the"985-project"universities'counseling centers under the standards ofthe IACS, find the shortages, and put forwards several suggestions in accordance with thetroubles of the"985-project"universities'counseling centers on the issues of theconstruction and management.This research shows that the"985-project"universities have abided by the relatedrequirements of the education authority and have established the university centers according to its own realities. But some problems such as its inefficient system, itsshortage of the faculty, the poor condition of the website and its disordered managementare still exist. Three reasons can reveal the reasons why the above stations: firstly, theauthorities attach less importance on the mental health education to students and showshortages on this issue, secondly, the counseling do not have enough money to make itsworks running; thirdly, so far ,we have no unified accreditation standards. We think thatthe ways mentioned next can help the university counseling centers to improve its poorconditions. Firstly, in order to promote the development of the mental health educationand counseling, the education authority should associate with the special psychologicalassociation to develop the accreditation standards of the university and college centers inchina in reference with the developed countries'advanced experiences. Besides, thetraining scale of the post-graduates majoring in psychology should be enlarged to solvethe problems. Secondly, the administrative of the university should pay more attention tothe students'mental health and increase the fund-investment to introduce the news staffs,to train the serving staffs to buy the equipments and to lunch many other activities. Andthen, the manage-model of the counseling centers should be changed, more autonomyshould be given if the counseling centers attached to the department of the studentworking. Thirdly, the counseling centers should integrate all aspects of the resources toperfect its own functions, at the same time, the speed of the website-construction shouldbe accelerated and the function of the informal media should be emphasized. Only in thisway can the counseling center develops well and the development of the mental healtheducation be in a standardized way.
