Objective:The Purpose of the study was to investigate psychological empowerment and turnover intention of nursing staff from class A tertiary general Hospitals,to understand the current situation and its factors and to explore the relationship between the psychological empowerment and turnover intention.The results of the investigation would provide theoratical basis for nursing administrators to take effective measure to improve the the nursing staff psychological empowerment. And a high level of Psychological empowerment of nurses will be beneficialto reduce the level of nurses' turnover intention. Finally a low level of turnover intention of nurses could help to stabilize the nursing team.Methods:The nurses from XiangYang three class A tertiary general hospitals of HuBei Province are the research object.500nurses were randomly seleeted from three class A tertiary general hospitals which were selected according to the convenience sampling method.The cluster sampling were surveyed by the general demographic characteristics of the questionnaire, psychological empowerment scale and turnover intention scale. The data collected were statistically analyzed using SPSS17.0, statistical methods used in the study included descriptive statistics,one-way ANOVA,Pearson correlation analysis and hierarchical regression analysis.Results:The total score of nurses'psychological empowerment was40.87±5.21, the value of index was68.12%,four items ranked decendantly as follow: self-efficacy, meaning,self-determination, impact。The total score of nurses'turnover intention was14.95±3.49, the value of index was62.29%; The nurses'psychological empowerment scores of different age, marriage,qualification,professional title, length of ervice, departments, employment nature,income and work purpose showed statistically significant difference(P<0.05, P<0.01), The nurses'turnover intention scores of different age, marriage,professional title,length of service, departments, income and work purpose showed statistically significant difference(P<0.05, P<0.01),but not included the different qualification and employment nature.The total nurses' psychological empowerment and meaning,self-determination, impact all showed signifcant negative correlation with the turnover intention. And the meaning is the effective predict variable of the nurses'turnover intention.Conclusion:The psychological empowerment and turnover intention of different nurses'socio-demographic profile showed statistically significant difference.The nurses'psychological empowerment is closely related to their turnover intention. Enhance the nursing staff psychological empowerment in the working palce can help to reduce the nurses'turnover intention.
