Purperse:To investigate two methods which are both of minimally invasive surgery with chinese medicine and conventional surgery for treating senile intertrochanteric fracture to evaluate clinical efficiency of minimally invasive treatment with chinese medicine for intertrochanteric fracture in the elderly.Method:60 clinical datas of 2007-2010 were selected from Shenzhen second hospital of Guangdong province and Xiangfan traditional chinese medicine hospital of Hubei province since 2007 to 2010 randomly.Minimally invasive groups:30 cases in a small incision on the condition of resetting closed fracture of using both of percutaneous compression plate (PCCP) and proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) with chinese medicine to treat senile intertrochanteric fracture; Conventional groups:30 cases in a large incision on the condition of resetting open fracture of using dynamic hip screw (DHS) to treat senile intertrochanteric fracture. The two groups were compared operative time, intraoperative bleeding, postoperative pain, function recovered, complications and mortality. Results:Operative time:minimally invasive groups averaged for 65±0.5 minutes, conventional groups averaged for 110±0.8 minutes; Intraoperative bleeding:minimally invasive groups averaged for 78±0.6 ML; Conventional groups averaged for 280±0.2 ML; Postoperative pain:minimally invasive groups and conventional groups all had postoperative pains, but after taking painkillers minimally invasive groups could bear the pains, post-operative pains of conventional groups were intense and 18 patients still could not bear the pain after taking painkillers or intramuscularing analgesic drugs. Through the case reports from 3 to 18 months,29 cases of healing fracture in minimally invasive groups and hip function recovered satisfactorily,1 case of hospitalization happened apulmonary embolism and died; 28 cases of healing fracture in conventional groups and hip function recovered well,1 case of fracture nonunion happened,1 case of hospitalization happened myocardial infarction and died. Conclusion:Minimally invasive treatment with chinese medicine for senile intertrochanteric fracture has been affirmed and can shorten operative time, reduce intraoperative bleeding and alleviate postoperative pain.
