ObjectiveTo study the correlation of metabolic syndrome and incidence of colorectal neoplasm, investigate whether serume levels of high-sensitivity c-reactive protein (hsCRP) in patients of metabolic syndrome are correlated with colorectal adenoma or carcinoma, explore other risk factors for colorectal neoplasm. Methods:All cases in hospital who received colonoscopy between 2010.1.1–2010.6.1, exclude those who had a history of colonic surgery, polypectomy, chronic inflammatory bowel disease, malignancies. Cases that colonoscopy showed normal, colorectal adenoma or colorectal carcinoma were included. The serume fasting glucose, triglyceride ,high-density lipoprotein ,total cholesterol, direct low density lipoprotein, very low density lipoprotein, apoprotein A, apoprotein B, lipoprotein(a),fast insuline, hsCRP level and blood pressure, height, weight, waist, neck, arm and shank circumferences were mesured in all included cases, whose age, gender, history of high blood pressure, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipoidemia, smoke, alcohol were also documented.ANOVA was used to compare the differences between3 groups; Chi square test and T test was used to compare discrete variables and continuous variables; Logistic regression analysis and Spearman rate correlation was used to analyzed risk factor for colorectal adenoma and colorectal carcinoma.Results1.Metabolic syndrome was a risk factor for colorectal cancer(OR(95%CI):7.45(2.32~23.97)),female with Metabolic syndrome wan a risk factor for colorectal adenoma;2.Serume levels of hsCRP in patients of Metabolic syndrome were positively associated with incidence of colorectal cancer(rs:0.45;P<0.05))3.Age≥50 years old, elevated apoB were risk factors for colorectal adenoma(OR(95%CI): 3.58 (1.15-10.96); 2.61(0.91~ 7.45)),Age≥50 years old, male, decreased apoA were risk factors for colorectal cancer(OR(95%CI):14.9(1.85-120.57),3.50(1.33-9.26),4.48(1.26-15.89))4.Insulin resistance index was negatively associated with incidence of colorectal cancer (rs=0.30,P<0.05).Conclusions:Metabolic syndrome was a risk factor for incidence of colorectal cancer but not with colorectal adenoma; The risk for the incidence of colorectal cancer increased with elevated serume levels of hsCRP;Serume hsCRP level may be needed for patients of metabolic syndrome to evaluage risk of colorectal cancer.
