Objective:The objective of this study was to investigate the clinical effect of the treatment of Electroacupuncture given at DU20 and GB20 for the patients who have had cognitive impairment after stroke, and then to find a more feasible and effective treatment for cognitively impaired patients. Methods:This clinical trial employed a randomized-controlled and non-blinded design.42 patients were randomly assigned to two groups, treatment group and control group,21 patients in each group. The two groups of patients were given both conventional neurological treatment and rehabilitation training. On this basis, the treatment group was treated again by using the treatment of Electroacupuncture given at DU20 and GB20; No more treatment was added to the treatment in control group. Before and after treatment, the Mini Mental State Examination score sheet MMSE and P300 (latency and amplitude) of event-related potential were used to measure the cognitive functions.Results:(1)MMSE rating scale by statistical analysis showed that cognitive function was improved in treatment group, compared with that before treatment, and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.05) while from the control group the statistical analysis of cognitive function, the difference was not statistically significant (p> 0.05).(2)MMSE scores in the treatment group, as for the orientation, calculation, memory and three-step instructions, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01), while in the control group, MMSE scores were not significantly different, but in the orientation and calculation, the difference was statistically significant(p<0.05).(3)With the analysis of latency and amplitude of P300 event related potential in the treatment group, significant improvement was detected before and after treatment, (p<0.01); in the control group, significant improvement was detected in latency (p<0.01), and significant improvement was detected in amplitude before and after treatment (p<0.05).(4)Significant improvement was detected in MMSE scores, latency and amplitude of P300 event-related potential (p<0.01), the efficacy of the treatment group was superior to the control group.(5)MMSE scores and the event-related potential ERP-P300 latency were negatively correlated, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01). MMSE scores and the event-related potential ERP-P300 amplitude were positively correlated, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.01).Conclusion:(1)Boht the treatment of Electroacupuncture given at DU20 and GB20 and conventional treatment can improve the cognitive function, but the effect of the treatment of Electroacupuncture was better than that of the conventional treatment. The two groups was statistically significant difference.(2)ERP-P300 can be used as objective indicators of cognitive impairment, and it was significant for the assessment of the grade of cognitive impairment.(3)By adopting ERP-P300 as an assessment of cognitive function, and applying Electroacupuncture combined with cognitive training as a treatment method can be used as a more scientific and reliable combination of assessment and treatment in future clinical treatment.
