The research in this thesis is intended to study new methods of analysis for the determination of phthalates in foodstuff. The analysis procedures are mostly composed of extraction procedures followed by sample clean up based on Florisil columns and gel permeation chromatography. Separation and detection of the analytes is mainly performed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry. Phthalates are a group of diesters of or tho-phthalic acid (dialkyl or alkyl aryl esters of 1,2-benzenedicarboxylic acid). Human exposure to phthalates has been an increased health concern due to the findings from toxicology studies in foodsuff. Therefore, according to the characteristics of different food matrix, it is very important to rapidly establish applied analytical methods respectively. For complexity of food matrix, the interferon existing in extraction increases the complexity and difficulty of testing. In order to ensure the veracity of analysis result, it is necessary to use an efficient cleanup method to obviate the co-intervention of matrix. GPC and Florisil cleanup can wipe off some lipid material and coloring matter. Double cleanup methods including GPC cleanup and Florisil cleanup are applicable to get an ideal result. The results of this paper showed that the new analytical methods in this paper are accurate, efficacious and reliable testing method, and demonstrated the excellent result. Based on this study, the methods of analysis would be performed in a wide range for testing services field.
