In modern society, as an important part of large and complex lifeline systems, the security problems of power system directly affect the country's product ion and people's daily life. The lifeline systems of the modern city have a strong interdependence, so power systems play a very important role. In recent years, the devastating earthquake occurred at home and abroad, the power systems, in particular the destruction of high-voltage substation, are very eye-catching.The destruction of power systems caused by the earthquake is catastrophic, which not only seriously affect the normal production and the relief work, but also the high equipment maintenance cost, reconstruction cost and the huge losses caused by power outage, all will make the state property suffer losses. As the voltage increases and the equipment capacity increases, the reliability of electrical power supply have become increasingly demanding, so to ensure the power system has a certain resist earthquake capacity has become necessary to resolve as soon as possible. Therefore, whether from a social point of view or from a business point of view, for the high seismic vulnerability of the current electrical power facilities and the weak status of seismic research, carrying out the research of damaged power grid under earthquakes to try to reduce the damage from earthquake to power system and reduce losses caused by the earthquake, to ensure the safe operation of power systems is a significant issue.This article firstly introduced the natural disaster earthquake. Then the article analyzed the status about the impact of earthquake to the grid at home and abroad from the device level, plant level and system-level. Finally, this article showed the method that could increase resist seismic performance in power systems. Electrical equipment selection is the prerequisite for resist seismic design and also the basis to ensure the resist seismic capacity of electrical equipment. At present there is no stereotyping resist seismic electrical equipment, that is, at present China's electrical equipments have no seismic parameters, some models have better resist seismic performance, but some have poor performance, which makes the selection work of electrical equipment for earthquake zone can not effectively proceed.Construction quality is also important to ensure that the seismic measures. Construction and installation of electrical equipment must be according to design requirements and comply with construction inspection standards and other relevant rules. The installation of equipment and components must comply with the requirements of the product installation manual, not to concentrate the stress in a local.
