Research on the city has been popular in recent years, but investigation of urban streets is relatively rare, especially from the angle of spatial arrangement of the streets. Streets are the most basic part of a city, the exploration of the streets will help us to better understand the internal structure of the city. Moreover, it can also enlarge our comprehension on the city.This paper mainly discusses the changes on the distribution of space of the streets in Chongqing from the period of opening as a trading port to the victory of the War of Resistance. After the Opening of the city, Chongqing metropolis is gradually promoting its process of modernization, which in reverse, significantly affects the arrangement and the quantity of the streets in Chongqing city. And it also contributes to the structure of the main streets of Yuzhong District in modern Chongqing.Chapter one makes a brief introduction of the purpose and significance and the notions of some important terms, it also reviews the previous researches on the spatial arrangement of the streets.Chapter two is the body of this paper, describes the situations of the spatial arrangement of the streets in Chongqing city in three periods:1891-1911,1911-1937,1937-1945, and expounds the process of development in these three periods.Chapter three is the concluding remark with probing into the changing process of the streets from the approval of the Civilian to the approval of the government, and the relationship of the change of the urban economic center and the change of the spatial arrangement of the streets.
