Research On City Traditional Streets Planning

Today in the course of quick urbanization, the organic renewal of historic districts based on the protection ideology has been recognized. There still are contradiction between the city development and Historic districts conservation. Simultaneously the traditional streets as the city's historic face the same awkward situation. Traditional streets play an important role in the city texture, city configuration and city scene characteristics. So it makes sense to explore the problems about protection and development of traditional streets.Along with the city developing, the concept of "cars come first" congests the planning thought of city streets. This leads the gradual disappear of the traditional street and incessant destroy of city texture. This paper combined the successful cases and based on the large number of fieldworks, has a primary probe to the planning methods and strategies of traditional streets through illuminating the connection between protection and development. So it is the main goal to provide guild to the plan of traditional streets.In part one (Chapter 1), It expatiate the connotation, value and meaning to cities. It also summarize social backgrounds and studies of foreign countries. In addition, this paper introduces its goal, meaning, object content, frame and ideology. This paper also expatiate it's the methods and feasibility of study.In part two (Chapter 2), this paper expatiates the value of traditional streets and the problems which the traditional streets are facing at present. This chapter construct the basis for the next chapters.In part three (Chapter3),from the perspective of multi-disciplinary overlapping, such as urban design, urban and sociology, urban traffic, this paper discusses the relative theory and concepts of traditional streets so as to rethink about the theory of traditional streets.In part four (Chapter 4), from the perspective of urban and traditional scene, this paper tries to explore the planning principle and strategies, including the methods of urban function, urban traffic, urban culture etc.In part five (Chapter 5), based on the principle and strategies of protection and development mentioned above, this paper take the Chongqing traditional streets as the case, through large number of investigation and analysis to it, and put forth the planning countermeasures to traditional streets and evaluate the value of it, and finally list the name of traditional streets, and analyzes the zhong shan si road for particular case.
