With the increasingly busy sea traffic, sea traffic accidents occur frequently, the safety navigation of ship has become to be an urgent problem. AIS and real-time radar information are usually used by ships to access to a navigation of marine traffic. Processing on the AIS and radar is undoubtedly a key technology on the safe navigation of ship. With the exchange of information between the ship and recognition capabilities of AIS, independent of the surrounding environment of the ship to conduct a comprehensive exploration of the function of radar, the function of the two sensors can not be interchangeable. Therefore, accessing to the AIS and radar information fusion to achieve the complementary advantages of AIS and radar in order to ensure the safety of navigation will be the ship navigation safety technology development.With the ship safety navigation technology as background, the paper researched on the integration of AIS and radar to resolve practical problems in engineering. The main work is as follows:First of all, we introduce the AIS and radar sensor working principle, describe the characteristics and the application during the voyage of AIS and radar sensors. With combination of the basic principles of information integration, methods, structure model, and the characteristics of the two sensors, the paper selected the distributed architecture model for information integration.Secondly, the analysis of AIS and radar data fusion basic steps was made, including: coordinate transformation, time registration, track correlation, information fusion. The approaches on above basic steps were taken in-depth research, and gave specific solutions. Specific methods are:coordinate transformation by Gauss-Kruger projection of polar transform, the observed AIS and radar data information converted to a unified coordinate system; using linear interpolation method to registrate time, the sensor observations to synchronize the information is not synchronized to the same observation time; track correlation method using fuzzy association, through the analysis of fuzzy double threshold method of track correlation, and to improve the method, which accelerates the track-related decision; in Information Fusion links, for unknown sensor accuracy, using the maximum likelihood method to estimate the variance function estimation, projection accuracy, and derived a right to determine the value of the sensor allocation method.Then, using Matlab on the AIS and radar sensor information modeling and simulation, and integration of the least square method to fit the data after the track, get a better approximation of the real track routes. The fusion results suggest that the fusion method has better stability.Finally, based on the Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS), platform for information fusion of AIS and radar is designed, and information fusion and analysis methods are applied to the platform. The platform can provide better navigation for ships safe navigation service. The proposed information fusion method is simple, efficient, and highly practical, applicable to multi-sensor information fusion.
