Virtual Digital Storage Oscilloscope is an example of the virtual instrument technology which are applied specifically in the field of oscilloscope and has been developed maturely. It is an important branch of diversify digital storage oscilloscope .Compared with traditional Digital Storage Oscilloscopes,the Virtual Digital Storage Oscilloscope has many advantages such as low development costs,easy maintenance and cost savings.However, it has its own shortcomings in real-time wave display and performance.How to improve performance and accelerate the transmission rate between data acquisition module and PC software has been a problem to be solved with the virtual oscilloscopes development.The article introduces the design of Virtural Digital Storage Oscilloscope based on FPGA and elabrates the software and handware design of its data acquisition module and the design of PC application software. The Flash-based architecture FPGA which is produced by ACTEL company is selected as the Core control chip of data acquisition module. Because of it has rich hardware resources and a large number of programmable devices,we can eliminate FIFO control circuit and clock generation circuitm, reduce costs in the traditional digital storage oscilloscope, improve system integration and immunity and enhance performance.Because we selects the USB bus as the communication bus of data acquisition module and PC software and the C8051F340 MCU which is produced by the Silicon Labs as the USB communication control chip,so the communication speed is improved, the real-time of wave display has been enhanced,programming is easy to implement and the development cycle has been shorten.We select the visual C++6.0 as the developemnt tool of PC software,it makes the interface of PC software more friendly,data processing easier and the development of software more flexible.The whole system has a series of advantages such as stable and reliable performance,easy to upgrade and expand,low development cost and the waveform data processing flexibility.It can be widely used in laboratories and teaching activities and has some application prospects and research value especially in the application file of low-cost digital storage oscilloscope.
