Since the reform and opening up of China, thousands of medium and small sized enterprises get quick development due to personal courage and acute market insight of the entrepreneurs. However, as the market competition is getting more intense, business management problems emerge gradually. Resulting from the poor management, business performance is getting lower and competitive capability is also weakening. Some of them are even in serious crisis. Therefore, more and more enterprises start to focus on performance management issues. Theories on performance management theory are developed since last century, especially late 1980s and early 1990s. It becomes popular and offers theoretical basis for the healthy and rapid development of many enterprises. After reading a great deal of books on human resource management and performance management, the author of this article introduces the basic concept of performance management as well as some personal comments on the necessity and modes of it. Based on the reality of BT company, the author further analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of several different performance management modes and the way for developing the performance management system for BT company. Aiming at solving the problems occurred during the implementation of performance system, the author also provides some suggestions on the improvement of performance management system of BT company.
