The family of Kang Baiwan, started in the Ming Dynasty, reached its peak period in the Qing Dynasty, in the period of Republic of China had been ruined. From Kang the Sixth, Kang Shaojing, to the Eighteenth, Kang Tinglan, the family of Kang Baiwan had been one of the richest in the Central China for more than 400 years which was from Ming Dynasty to the republic of China. The family broke the phenomenon that Chinese families’ richness cannot stay after three generations’ operations, and twelve generations were well off, which is exceedingly rare in Chinese family history. Taking advantage of Henan’s geographical abundant products, the family mainly traded in grain, cotton and salt. Through comprehensive analysis of the research of the family of Kang Baiwan, we can basically have a clear understanding of the development of the family of Kang Baiwan, the hardships the family suffered in producing wealth and how the fortune went through in twelve generations with no gap. The management system they used is called storage house mode of management, which is similar to the pattern of head-and-branch office system. At the same time, they paid more attention to the education of the family tradition and the learning of the family enterprise system, resulting in continuous outstanding later generations, which is the best proof of the successful education within the family. This paper analyses the reasons of the success of the unique Kang’s family by comparing the family of Kang Baiwan with the family of Shen Wansan, the family of Hu Xueyan, family Mu, Huizhou merchants and Shanxi merchants. Through thorough studies, this paper reveals the reasons of the twelve rich generations. The thesis refers historical records and historical work,combines methods of synthesis and analysis, and systematically analyses how the family of Kang Baiwan created wealth inherited.
