IPv4 has been the basic of the Internet for so many years, which once developed successfully and proficiently.However,IPv4 finally can no longer hide its own defects when it is facing the high-speed development of Network ,specially its so small address space urges us to find a new way to go further ,hence the experts group of IETF have designed IPv6,a new generation of core communication protocol,to replace IPv4. But in such short time, IPv6 cannot possibly do all the jobs done by IPv4.So it becomes the focus to study the transition technology from IPv4 to IPv6 and the method of these both protocols'peaceful coexistence. All colleges and universities should not only see the importance and bright future of the trend but also be the pioneers in this new area.The author in this paper introduces the disadvantages of IPv4 and the advantages of IPv6, theoretically stating and analyzing the inevitable trend of transiting from IPv4 to IPv6 in respect of the two protocols'addresses and message modes. Besides, the paper also involves the normal three kinds of transition technology and something detailed about the IPv6 protocol, and emphasizes the dual stack technology, as well as the basic knowledge of realization of IPv6 on Windows platform and Socket programming technology. The author uses five computers to create an experimental environment on Windows XP operating system/VC ++6.0 integrated development environment, and studies the Socket's Network Programming to implement Web Server Program at the node of both IPv4 stack and IPv6 stack. Finally by introducing the network structure of XingYi Normal College for Nationalities(XYNCN),an area inhabited by the minorities ,which started relatively late as a college , the author has designed an elementary plan using the result of the experiment based on IPv4/IPv6 Campus Network application system at the very beginning of the building of the new campus(XYNCN) in order to boost the development of Internet technology and its industry in local area ,as a result , it also can be beneficial to the construction and development of CN in the campus and also make it possible to create a future where IPv4 and IPv6 can work together successfully and proficiently.
