Microwave receivers are widely used in radar, communications and weapons guidance systems. Local oscillator module is the key component of microwave receivers, whose performance has a direct impact on receiver performance. The aim of this work is to develop the high-performance local oscillator module for microwave receivers, use the frequency synthesizer technology using the phase-locked loop, and design a S-band phase-locked loop signal source and a X-band phase-locked loop signal source.We also introduce the DRO theory, design a X-band and a Ku-band high power VCDRO using simulation tools,which are applied to the phase-locked loops of the high-performance X-band and Ku-band signal sources successfully .First, we describes the characteristics of the frequency synthesizer technology, domestic and international profile and the development of technical specifications.We also give a brief of the the PLL frequency synthesizer technology.Next, We give details about the design of a S-band phase-locked loop signal source, a X-band phase-locked loop signal source and a Ku-band phase-locked loop signal sourc based on the theoretical analysis and a lot of experiments..Finally, according to the research process and the results of the project, we summarizes the frequency synthesizer technology and its applications, we also bing up some problems which we still have and the ways that could be used for the improvement.This paper studies a PLL frequency synthesizer, PL DRO, VCDRO, mixer, amplifier, filter technology, does some theoretical analysis and experimental research, and summarizes the relevant experience.The test results show that the local oscillator module can meet the requirements of the subject. The design of the X-band and the Ku-band phase-locked loop signal source based on PL DRO is far better than the subject requirements,and based on this the future design of high-performance X-band and Ku-band signal sources can be very easy.
