Energy consumption balancing and Hotspot problem are two main causes of short wireless sensor network(WSN) life-cycle. These problems can be solved by applying a mobile cluster head(CH) strategy to a event-driven WSN. But CH hybrid mobile strategy(CH HMS) must ensure infinite energy for CH, this is impossible in most WSN applications. On the premise of finite energry CH, this paper presents a Base Station- Cluster Heads hybrid mobile strategy(BS-CH HMS) base on a event-driven WSN.In the paper, enery consumption in WSN is been analyzed first to determine the energy consumption of CH. Then the cooperative mobile strategy for base station according to CH movement is derived. Finally, computer simulation regarding mobile CH strategy and BS-CH HMS has been done.Computer simulation result proved that this strategy can save up to 67% energy consumption for the CHs compared with CH HMS which showed the feasibility of BS-CH HMS to reduce the CH energy consumption and thus, increase the whole life-cycle of the WSN. And theoretical analysis as well as simulation result shows a promising performance of BS-CH HMS in reducing active CH power consumption while keeping the advantages of CH HMS. By applying BS-CH HMS, life cycle of a WSN with limited powered CH can be greatly increased.
