Beam forming and its engineering realization have become an important branch of array signal processing. Large capacity, high speed and real time data transmission are some important feature of array signal processing system. Thus develop an orderly and stable data transmission environment, and complete the DOA and DBF implementation effectively are two key technologies for array signal processing. Based on the nine circular arrays hardware platform for spatial spectrum estimation and digital beam forming, the control of real-time data transmission on signal processing board, beam forming algorithm and its implementation in hardware system are investigated in this dissertation.Firstly, according to the array structure of the system, the model of receive signal and circular array have been investigated. A Dolph-Chebyshev approach is adopted to suppress the side lobe level of the circular array pattern, which is beneficial for array front receiver. It employs a transformation technique that transforms the circular array to virtual linear array, and then applies the Dolph-Chebyshev method to the transformed array response vector.Secondly, several beam forming algorithms which are suitable for the system practical application are introduced, including minimum variance distortionless response (MVDR), generalized side-lobe cancellation (GSC), and production of adaptive array troughs (Zatman). The performances of these algorithms are simulated and analyzed. Besides, taking into account the practical engineering, the effect of amplitude and phase errors on the performance of beam forming is also analyzed.In addition, the system configuration and the principle are introduced in this dissertation. We focus on real time data transmission control on the signal processing board. It Includes data unpack and pack, data transfer between FPGA and DSP, fiber optic transmission.Finally, based on the previous simulation result, MVDR and Zatman methods are selected for DSP software implementation. These programs have been optimized to meet the real time requirements of the system. Debugging results show that these programs not only satisfy real time meet, but also full fill the beam forming performance.
