As the development and popularization of Internet, video on demand has been gotten more and more attention. In the past, the video source data should be downloaded completely to the local storage device to smoothing view, however, Streaming media technology, which can be used as while watching while downloading, has been newly developed. The traditional video on demand system based on C/S(Client/Server) mode. This mode could provide very well viewing experience if the load of the whole system is very small. But the increase number of the client servers, the heave burden will be the bottleneck at last and have a bad influence to the video quality. Network multicast technology and Content delivery network (CDN) has been proposed in succession as the increasing popularity of online media and more and more scholars have research on how to increase the quality of video on demand and improve the experience of viewing. The above three technologies cannot be implemented in large scale cause the protocols in the network multicast technology and multicast technology are difficult to implement and the cost of CDN layout is much higher. In this situation, streaming media technology based on P2P (Peer to Peer) becomes a feasible alternative in the existing network conditions to improve the quality of video on demand.Firstly, this paper introduces relevant knowledge of streaming media technology and P2P technology; secondly, the developing process of the video on demand content distribution based on P2P streaming media technology has been discussed. It has been sorted compared on the organization structure between nodes. The advantages and disadvantages has also been summarized. This paper proposed a P2P streaming media content distribution strategy (Content Predistribution Strategy) based on the video source selection theory in BitTorrent protocol.Open 1GB space in the computer disks of users in the condition of forewarning the terminal node users, which is the key idea of the CPS. This space can be treated as the space of pre-assigned video and video which has been watched. According with the idea of BitTorrent protocol, the video source can be divided to many blocks in accordance with 20MB size and CPS server distributes the video source to the pre-assigned space in current spare terminal nodes with the size of block by analyzing the urgency of the video demand and the watching behavior of users. The number of resource of certain video can be increased significantly via the pre-assigned, thus the quality of viewing can be improved noticeably. Then, a set of easy plans of CPS function modules have been proposed.A complete structure model of video on demand system based on CPS has been proposed in chapter five in this paper, at the meantime, the functions of every membership module have been explained in detail, and some kernel modules have been implemented. The summary and outlook to the future is the last.
