Because of its superior performance, the narrow wall slotted-waveguide planar array has become the first choice for all forms of aircraft radar antenna. Such antennas mainly include radiation part and the coupling part of feed. The traditional method of designing radiation part is to determine the different angle and depth of the gap corresponds to the conductance through experiments. It requires processing multiple test elements for testing, each corresponding to a different angle and depth. The biggest shortcoming is its low efficiency and accuracy. In general, the coupling part of feed adopts the approach named "series feed". The design of waveguide feed is also used in the form of narrow gap. Each coupling aperture on the radiation waveguides are weakly coupled. But in fact, by size and weight constraints, the number of radiation waveguide is unlikely too much. The "weak coupling" approach will seriously affect the efficiency of feed.To solve the above two issues, first, based on the traditional experimental method, combined with modern electromagnetic computing software, the method of Computer Aided Design is proposed in this paper. This method can greatly improve the design accuracy as well as efficiency and save the design costs. Secondly, the series ET branch of "strong coupling" feed method is adopted, which take into account the feed efficiency, the antenna size, and weight. In addition, this paper take the case of "XXX scanning radar antenna system for low-altitude target" that developed by Xi'an HengDa Microwave Technology Development Company to verify the above method. Experimental results show that the above method is effective and practicable.
