The development of multimedia technology gradually makes image information become one of the main contents of alternation. The technology of compress coding, which is used to solve the memory and transmission of video and image, is always the research hotspot in China and abroad. H.264, the latest video coding standard constituted by ISO/IEC MPEG associated with ITU-T VCEG adopts much advanced technology that is different from previous standards. The new standard has great advantages in image quality, compressibility and the robustness of transmission stream and so on. Meanwhile, the coding efficiency and capability is improved greatly .But coding algorithmic complexity and operation is increased at the same time. So, how to decrease operation complexity and increase coding speed is the crux to achieve real time coding.TMS320DM642 is one of the DSP which TI Corporation promotes in view of multimedia processing domian application. It is added many peripheral equipments and interfaces on the basis of C64x. It is one of the primary platform to designing for embedded video system.This paper makes a deep research and analysis on the technologies of H.264 , and as well it makes research on the real time implementation and optimization of H.264 based on DM642. The main research and achievements are as follows.⑴This paper makes a deep research on the hierarchy structure, data structure and coding technologies of H.264. Especially, it performs in-depth understanding and research on the key technologies of H.264 and makes detaile analysis on motion estimation, intra / inter mode and integer transform.⑵making a deep anlysis on the T264 which is one of the open coding model of H.264,and then analysed the operation character,the algorithm of motion estimation and complexity of Model T264.Have found out the module in which is more complex and needs more time. Then, improvements on the groping algorithm of motion estimation in the encoder which needs more time and space.This paper introduces a fast groping algorithm named Unsymmetrical Big Cross-Hexagon Search. And then many experimentals have made to validate that the optimized algorithm have reduced the complexity of T264 efficiently and improved the coding efficiency while hardly influenced the quality of images.⑶Researches inter SKIP mode pre-judge has made ,then optimization has made on the early-time prejudgment rule of SKIP Mode. These algorithms have reduced the complexity of T264 module method efficiently and improved the coding efficiency greatly while hardly influenced the coding capabilities. ⑷Analysed the structure characteristic and properties of DM642 EVM Platform, and then discussed the basic ideas and detailed process of the transplantation for H.264 from the PC to DM642 EVM platform based on the characteristic and properties of DM642 Hardware.And then , much of optimization on algorithm has make from the aspects of the using inline function and the function in TI standard image database as well as linear assembly and so on.The experimental results show that the algorithm which after transplantation and optimization meets the requires of real-time video coding.
