"Better City, Better Life"is not only the slogan of 2010 Shanghai EXPO, but also the great annotation of city.City plays the significant role in the development of national economy and social affairs as the core of regional politics, economy, and culture. The world urbanization level has reached 50% in 2008; it seems that human society gets into the"City Age".With the development of global urbanization and city modernization, the competition between cities has been the focus of total competition instead of the competition between countries or industries. Nowadays city image as the key factor of city competitive strength has been more accounted of, however, almost of the city image study are now based on city image building instead of communication.This article advocates putting communication theory into city image study. According to the research approach of traditional communication study, my thesis has get into further study respectively on the disseminator, contents, media, audience and effect of city image communication for the purpose of city image communication principle. Meanwhile, this thesis has also studied many outstanding cases of city image communication in order to quest for the appropriate strategy of Chinese city image communication.
