Product data management (PDM) is a technology based on Information Technology, focusing on product and integrating and managing all of the information related to product. PDM technology is an indispensable tool for enterprise informatization. But most of the PDM systems adopt conventional C/S mode at present. Those systems based on this mode have such defaults as difficulty in installing, upgrading and maintaining software, and can't be required to contol and manage the product data in the different areas. As Web technology forges ahead and buds out into popularity, the Web, with its open architecture, becomes an ideal platform in the present application of computer and provide the technical support for PDM based on network.Based on estensive reference to the existed commercial PDM systems and in the light of the needs of medium and small enterprise, according to guide of the Web technology, we devolope a PDM systems. Firstly, the paper chiefly introduces the definition the PDM, status quo of the application of PDM technology inland and abroad and the importance of adopting the Web technology. Then, the article analyses the relation between the Web technology and PDM technology, put forward a PDM system framework based on Web technology and depicts the system detailed. Next, the paper introduces the development environment and the key technology of achieving the system.Finally, the paper analyzes the modules of functions and applications of PDM system in detail.The system is based on object-oriented design method, and the system has some features as following: single application interface, easy to manage and maintain, favorable expandability, etc. It is suit to the small and medium enterprise, which is perplexed by the actual enconomic strength and the ability of technology.
