The steel and iron industry is the basic and pillar industry which is playing a very important role in our national economy. It affects our country's Gross Domestic Product and home and abroad image directly. The blast furnace is the most important equipment in the iron making process, which is related to the production of steel and iron. The NO.6 blast furnace in Lianyuan Steel is a huge furnace which is 2200m~3. Its yield occupy the whole output of the company almost 50%, so diagnosing the abnormal status of the NO.6 blast furnace effectively decides the economic benefit of Lianyuan Steel, and it is very important to keep the blast furnace in good state. At present, blast furnace expert system is always used to image the status of blast furnace in our country, but the effect is not very well. So, in this paper, gas flow and some other factors are imposed on diagnosing BF status availably.The change of blast furnace gas flow can reflect accurately distributed condition of gas flow in furnace. What is more, it will be more sensitive to reflect unusual circumstance, for example, use of gas flow, hanging, the pipeline and slip. Distribution condition of gas flow directly affects utilization efficiency of heat energy and chemical energy of blast furnace. This paper firstly analyzed the distribution of gas flow of BF as well as burden distribution process, through gas flow of the top of blast furnace as well as other measurement instrument and control parameter, such as online detected coal gas flow, cold wind flux, hot wind press, and so on, through the mathematical analysis and computation, discovers relations under different kinds of conditions between the status of BF and some parameters, like the change of gas flow, the rate of change, the cold wind flux, the hot wind press. The relational model between gas flow of the top of blast furnace and the burden, hanging, slip and abnormal pipeline conditions is established in this paper. Secondly, this paper uses the fuzzy expert inference mechanism and BF status diagnosis inference data which are obtained according to field experience to diagnose the status of the 6th blast furnace. This paper uses the object-oriented programming language to design procedure, and manages the process data with database technology and expert rule.The practical running results of BF status diagnosis system demonstrate that the design of system is reasonable and structure of the system is compact. Regarding the abnormal conditions such as hanging ,slip, pipeline, and so on, diagnosis hit probabilities can reach 90%, The system provides a basis for dispensing the upper part of blast furnace and setting value of top pressure, so it can instruct the blast furnace production, and optimize blast furnace operation and guarantee furnace conditions along the line, by which some heavy accidents of blast furnace can be avoided effectively.
