Echo Sounder is a kind of acoustic measuring depth equipment, which can measure depth with the time between transmitted wave and echo on condition in which the speed of ultrasonic is fixed. The main contributions are described as follows:A kind of digital Echo Sounder based on embedded microprocessor S3C2440 is designed and some important issues, including the algorithm of Sounder, the parameter of transmitting and receiving system and estimation of transit time spread are discussed in the paper.The circuit of ultrasonic transmitter and receiver is analyzed and simulated by PSPICE software. As a kind of extended application, Echo Sounder interface module, including frequency divider module, ADC module, UART module, etc is added.The design of software program based on embedded system is another primary part of this paper, including the driver and the application based on WinCE. The driver program includes GPIO, PWM, and ADC. The application program includes sampling and processing of echo signal, On Screen Display interface, etc.The main work of the hardware and software of Echo Sounder based on embedded system has been completed and the feasibility of the plan is proved to be true by results.
