With the development of wireless communications and military electronic technology, the request for frequency source was higher and higher in electronic system. So we strived to obtain low phase noise, pure spectrum, stable frequency and quick transition of frequency. The quality value of Dielectric Resonator Voltage Controlled Oscillator (DRVCO) is very high, so DRVCO has excellent spectrum purity, phase noise performance and frequency stability. As one of the most important methods to realize frequency synthesizers, phase-locked frequency source can provide good phase noise performance and spectrum stability. By far, DRVCO and phase-locked frequency source have been widely applied in wireless communications, radar and satellite communications. In the paper, the theory and technique to design DRVCO and phase-locked loop are deeply researched, then Ku band DRVCO and X band PLL are developed. The detailed research includes:1. On the base of studying the theory of dielectric resonator (DR), a 15.2GHz DRVCO is designed and simulated with Serenade8.71 software. Phase noise of this DRVCO reaches -100dBc/Hz@10KHz and -121dBc/Hz@100KHz.2. The paper deeply studies the working theory and basic circuit structure of PLL, detailedly analyzes the component of phase noise in PLL system, and briefly introduces the theory of stability of PLL. A 11.5GHz PLL frequency source is designed and simulated. Simulation presents phase noise of the PLL: -90dBc/Hz@10KHz and -104dBc/Hz@100KHz.3. PCB layout and debugging of DRVCO and PLL are completed, and the shielding boxes are designed. The paper introduces the methods of testing, and provides the testing results. The testing phase noise of DRVCO is -65.84dBc/Hz@100kHz; and the testing phase noise of PLL reaches -89.01dBc/Hz@10kHz and -91.94 dBc/Hz@100kHz.
