In the process of oil production using screw pump, the rotation rate is an important parameter, which has a direct impact on the production efficiency and life-span of the screw pumps. Unsuitable choice of rotation for the screw pumps can limit the merit of saving energy and high efficiency. On the base of detailedly analyzing some basic methods of measuring rotation rate, the detect scheme of rotation rate sensor and considering the different oil production environments, an digital circuit system of rotation rate measurement is designed by using the photoelectric sensor and AT 89 C51 singlechip.In the hardware circuit design, the basic operational principle of photoelectric sensor, the circuit designment scheme of detect, LED driving circuit, singlechip clock circuit and reset circuit have been detail analysised. The integral hardware circuit was desiged according to the detect sensor, ie., the impulse signal connected to singlechip directly to make the measurement of impulse effective. In software design, the master detect program flow is analyzed, timing, LED digital display, number digit conversion sorftware have been also solved. Then the entire software for the rotation rate measurement system is debugged in the laboratory. The rotation rate measurement system of screw pump was tested in the practice, the tested result show that it matching well with practical rotation rate. According to the simulation in the laboratory and the situation of actual, the test system has been made more improved so that the system can be used well in practical measurement.
