Mankind completely enters the information and electronic age in the 21st century. Technology of sensors, communications and computer are the Information industry's three mainstays. With the spread of domain and space for human's knowledge, more and more kinds of electronic information are needed to be obtained. It's inevitable to quicken the speed of transmitting information and strengthen the capability of processing information. As an instrument that is used to detect nature, sensor is the interface between the studied object and the information system, and is also the window for the system to apperceive, acquire and detect information. Rotation sensor is an important branch of sensors and it is very crucial for systems to apperceive, acquire and detect information. In this paper, a photoelectric regular polyhedron rotation sensor was designed for the fine measurement of the rotator's speed. It can transform the angular velocity of rotator to electric-pulse signal, and then it measures the signal and displays the result.Firstly, this paper introduced the basic theory about rotation sensor, and then analyzed the principle of photoelectric regular polyhedron rotation sensor. It respectively designed circuits of signal collecting, shaping, signal-adding, driving, measuring and displaying.This dissertation chose and designed the signal collecting circuit primarily composed of photosensitive component by analyzing and comparing the signal collecting circuit composed of electric eye and photosensitive component. And designed shaping circuit composed of retardation voltage comparison after comparing characteristics of simple voltage comparison and retardation voltage comparison. Because the sensor has multi-routes signal output and finally also measure circuit of signal adding together, the research designed and adopted circuit of signal adding composed of 74LS02. There are respective virtues and imperfections of output drive circuit of push-pull and output drive circuit of collector. Analysing shows that Push-pull drive circuit has fine function, so finally adopted Push-pull drive circuit. Basing on analysing dynamic and static displaying circuit, the paper designed metrical displaying circuit composed of 8051chip, and also designed the software of the sensor, according to hardware.
