With continuous development of digital modulation mode and coding algorithm, it provides digital audio broadcast with a more effective way of transfer and storage. It becomes possible to transmit more and better quality of audio signals in limited bandwidth and low bit rate. With the development of wireless communication technology, digital audio is combined with mobile communications network and short range wireless communication technology such as Bluetooth that also gets great development.This paper simply introduces several short wireless network technology and MP3 standard. Compared with other wireless communication technology, the Low Rate Wireless Personal Area Network (LR-WPAN) has the features of lower data rate, lower power consumption and lower cost, and is flexible to build a network. MPEG standard always is the research hotspot for college and research institutions, and product development in industry. MP3 contains the MPEG-1/MPEG-2/MPEG-2.5 third layer, is is the best solution in MPEG Audio series. MP3 greatly reduces digital audio file capacity, and does not destroy the original sound.Based on a thorough analysis of IEEE 802.15.4 standard for the low speed wireless network and MP3 standard, the paper presents a scheme of design and implementation of MP3 audio broadcast handheld terminal on freescale MCF52235 microprocessor platform. This design is easy to realize with low cost and power consumption. It will be suitable for wireless audio communication in home and office environment. The scheme has been functional verification.This paper introduces the architecture design of the wireless audio broadcase system which includes platform design of hardware and software with hand-held terminals. It introduces in detail porting the operating system onto hardware platform, writing and testing hardware module drivers, the optimization design and realization of the MAC layer of wireless network protocol stack, and the realization of the function of the system. It presents system testing methods and testing results. Testing methods include unit tests and integration testing. In the process of integration testing, it focuses on packet loss rate without interference circumstance with shielded cable test and with normal outdoor environment. Test results show that the system can perform the function of audio expected.
