VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol) technology which is also called IP phone is a kind of advanced communication method that can realize voice communication based on IP network. Through decades of development, the VoIP technology now is mature and widely used.With the development of wireless communication technology, a new trend of the combination of the VoIP technology and wireless commnunication technology is shown, such as VoWLAN and VoWiMAX technologies which build VoIP on wireless local area network and wireless metropolitan area network respectively. Besides, the combination of VoIP with GPRS or 3G networks and with short range wireless communication technology such as bluetooth is also in exploration.Compared with other wireless communication technology, the Low Rate Wireless Personal Area Network (LR-WPAN) has the features of lower transceiver power, lower data rate, lower cost, and lower power consumption and is flexiable to form a network. This paper proposed a method to design a wireless VoIP phone based on SIP protocol and LR-WPAN. Compared with other method, this design is easy to realize with low cost and power consumption. It is suitable for wireless voice communication in home and office environment. Now, the design has been realized on the Freescale processor platform.This paper focus on introducing the design and realization of the wireless network protocol stack, the hardware platform and the integration of the software module of the handset of the wireless VoIP phone system, and the applicaition software design of the handset. In the last part, this papar proposed a test plan and achieved the test result. The test result shows that the wireless VoIP phone accomplishes the design goal.
