Along with the development of Internet, multimedia and wireless communication, people pay more and more attention to the high rate, high quality wireless multimedia services. To construct the short-range, high rate wireless network, the wireless personal network was introduced recently. Now there are two proposals of wireless personal network physical layer standard based on ultra wideband (UWB) techonology. One is named after multiband OFDM, which is proposed by MBOA, the other, is DS-CDMA with the support of Motorola, Xtremespectrum and CRL. According to the status of the IEEE 802.15.3a, maybe there are two de-fact standards in the future. In Chapter 1, we introduce the history and research status UWB radio, including the development of wireless personal network physical layer standard based on UWB. In Chapter 2, the main contents of two proposals are introduced. In chapter 3, these two proposals are studies in detail, and simulation results are presented to compare these two proposals. With these results, we conclude that the MB-OFDM is better than DS-CDMA, especially in emplement techonolgies in present. To reduce the transmitted signal power of MB-OFDM, the null pre-fix is used. The TX preamble waveform of MB-OFDM is modified, and the power spectrum of modified preamble signals is more flat than original preamble signal. The low density parity code (LDPC) is used to improve the performance of MB-OFDM. The simulation results show that in higher SNR the performance and efficiency of LDPC is better than the channel code proposed by MBOA. The pre-rake techonolgy is investigated to reduce the complexity of DS-CDMA rake receiver, which can make the receiver more portable, cheaper and consumpt less energy. The simulation results in CM1 show that the performance of Pre-RAKE is similar to that of RAKE. The Combined Iterative De-mapping/Decoding (CIDD) is used in code MBOK DS-CDMA. The performances of CIDD are studied in static channel and in multipath fading channel, In Chapter 5, we conclude the whole thesis and give some advice on the future reseach direction.
