With the fast developing of integrated circuit and technology of video encoding and decoding,we have entered a multimedia era.The developing of multimedia has brought more and more conveniences for people,and has made great changes to our lives.The video encoding and decoding technology is the core of multimedia technology. H.264/AVC is a new generation video encoding standard which is established by JVT which is constituted by ITU-T's VCEG and ISO/IEC's MPEG.H.264 video encoding standard is widely used,such as fixed or mobile video phone,video conference,streaming media,HDTV,mobile television,video information storage.H.264 video encoding standard just defines the encoder block diagram, but not the detailed algorithm.Consequently,people can choose appropriate algorithms to realize their designs from specific backgrounds based on it,and continue exploring the lower complexity algorithms at the same time.Based on the block diagram and the relative algorithms defined by H.264 video encoding standard,deep study of main modules of H.264 video encoder,including intra-prediction,integer transform,quantize,scan,CAVLC and so on,has been carried out.RTL design,synthesis and functional simulation have been accomplished.On these basis,the whole forward-access system of I frame encoder of H.264 baseline profile has been accomplished.Firstly,the paper introduces the encoder structure and the relative algorithm units defined by H.264 video encoding standard white paper.Then emphases the detailed algorithms and design schemes of the key algorithm units in I frames.Functional simulation waveforms have been gained from Quartus II,and analysis to the relative waveforms has been made.In the end,entire design of the system is introduced and functional simulation waveform and synthesis result are given.In the design,intra-prediction module uses 4×4 luma block intra-prediction mode.Integer transform module adopts simplification algorithm so that it avoids multiplication operation.Quantizer adopts simplification algorithm so that it avoids division operation.Scanner adopts Zigzag scanning mode.Entropy encoder adopts context-based adaptive variable length coding(CAVLC) method.
