More and more modern enterprises has based their business on IT infrastructure, in order to promote productivity and control cost. A lot of diverse IT equipments have been utilized in every department, around the company. To manage such IT infrastructures, an integrated central management system is deployed by the traditional way. In traditional way, private/specific network for management and proprietary management protocols are also used to achieve the security goal of management. But one major drawback is that the tight tie between management system and managed IT equipments' management interfaces. As the enterprise expands its business and use more new IT devices or update its current IT devices, the devices' management interface might be changed. This will put great burden on the management work and consume more resources on the implementation of proprietary management protocol for such IT devices.Web service technology is widely used to build business system by enterprises recently. The inherent advantage of platform-neutral makes it suitable to be the base of management protocol for distributed management that involves disparate diverse IT devices. Another advantage is that it is firewall-friendly. This merit let the configuration work on firewall for system and network management becomes safer and easier. This thesis is focused on:Study and analyze the traditional system and network management solution, and analyze SOA-based system and network management solution.Study and analyze an open international management specification: WSDM that supports SOA-based system and network management solution. In this part, we analyze an open source implementation of WSDM: MUSE, design and implement an adapter to manage resources in JVM for a system management prototype.Study and analyze an open international management specification: WS-Management that supports SOA-based system and network management solution. In this part, we analyze and test an open source implementation of WS-management: Wiseman, research on several issues while utilizing WS-Management specification in realistic scenarios.
