Network equipment management is one of the important content of network management. It has great significance of making good use of all kinds of network resources, enhancing the control and monitoring of network equipment states, improving the network reliability and security. With the rapid increase of network scale, network equipments become complex and heterogeneous, which makes the network equipment management more and more difficult. Through constructing distributed system, making the applications as services for users, the service-oriented architecture provides a new solution for network equipment management. This thesis analyses methods and technologies of network equipment management, discusses its development trends , particularly studies the architecture and criterion of distributed management systems based on the Web service(mainly on WSDM). Besides, based on WSDM, we proposes a network equipment architecture which logically divides the equipment management system into WSDM service interface layer, network management layer and application management layer. Moreover, this thesis discusses the implement scheme of equipment management service in detail as well as a management software architecture based on WSDM, and studies the self management and active service of intelligent equipments. In the development environment of J2EE, JEE5, Tomcat, Axis2, Muse, this thesis describes equipment management services in detail using XSD document and WSDL. The author has implemented a equipment management prototype system. This system, as a service-oriented architecture, has simple network interfaces and clear hierarchical structure. Besides, it can shield underlayer skill details and enhance the agility and scalability of network equipment management.
