Wireless network has been developed rapidly since 1970s. It can be categorized into center-controlled network and self-organized wireless network which is usually called Ad hoc network or MANET network. This network is a new network mode and it is a multi-hop autonomous system network . Ad hoc network is getting more and more attention due to the characters of no network administration and infrastructure. Ad hoc network is multi-hop wireless network that is composed of hosts communicating with each other through wireless links. Since the topological structure of Ad hoc network varies rapidly, how to improve the route reliability and the percentage of the data delivered become the central challenges in such dynamic wireless network.Because of constantly changing topology, Ad hoc networks can't adopt traditional routing protocols. Research of routing protocols becomes the most important part of the research of Ad hoc. Routing Protocols for Ad hoc network is a key and the core technology, modeling and simulation is an important means to access the performance of DSR in different circumstances. This paper introduces the development, the definition, and characteristics of Ad hoc network briefly. After the analysis on classic Ad hoc network routing protocols, then this paper uses OPNET Modeler to simulate typical DSR in Ad hoc network, mainly research on the key factors such as the highly loaded traffic and the delay. Also there is an analysis of DSR Routing Protocol for WLAN on Throughput and Load, etc. Network parameters in the Ad hoc network, adding the application flow.The paper sets up two simulation models, the comparative analysis show that the parameters of Route expiry timer, Non_propagating route request and the trajectory in the DSR routing protocol play the key role. Route expiry timer is relatively longer, more stable network; and Non_propagating route request mechanism would be very effective to avoid unnecessary broadcasts, to avoid spiking upward node load and network bandwidth congestion situation and the paralysis. Trajectory is the Ad hoc network; the dynamic expression of trajectory can be set to reflect changes in network topology.Through the simulation, we have come to the DSR routing protocol relative to other routing protocols for network load is not at the case of superior performance. Also, the paper proposes optimization space of DSR protocol.In order to enhance the performance of DSR routing protocol, the paper proposes the optimization on the routing request, and gives the corresponding simulation results on some performance parameters such as the bytes of the packets, the average end to end delay, routing load and success rate of the packet delivery.At the same time, this paper focuses in the area of security considerations, analyzes a variety of attacks. The mechanism is also put on which is based on the threshold and identity. In theory, SDSR routing protocol makes up for deficiencies in DSR effectively.
