Service Level Agreement (SLA) is a formal negotiated agreement about the level of the service quality between two parties——service providers and subscribers.This dissertation investigates the topic of the basic definition and the development of SLA, and the differences between SLA and QoS are discussed as well. To inspect and evaluate of SLA parameters is quite important and difficult due to its function as in the operation management involving multi-parts of a whole lifecycle.In order to inspect the network capability and evaluate the working condition, the related parameters of SLA need to be collected, calculated and analysed, then the bottle-neck of network capability can be found, which will provide an appraisal on the satisfaction of service quality and a material reference for the network optimization. The parameters of SLA not only help the ISP to evaluate the services they provide but also help the subscribers to evaluate the services they take. A SLA-centered network operation inspecting system already shows itself a very promising market ability. This dissertation takes a SLA inspecting need in LAN for example and analyses the inspect and the evaluation of SLA network operation based on the SNMP data collection platform, a service ranking of SLA inspecting system for LAN is designed and realized. The content of the dissertation is shown as following:This dissertation generalizes three collecting methods, and analyses their advantages and disadvantages, it also points out the necessity and the importance of the data collection platform. Also, the possible data collection sources---MIB, RMON MIB and Netflow are analysed theoretically. The data collection platform is designed and realized under the sway of the uniform structure of SLA network inspecting system. The data collection platform collects network operation data from network equipment of LAN as the foundation of the whole system. The platform employs the traditional Manager/Agent model to collect data needed by using collection system under the control of the main system control module, and the data is the foundation of calculation and evaluation of SLA parameters.In order to improve the efficiency and the pertinency of data collection, the platform designed here takes the strategy of assortative collection and storage aiming at different needs of different modules of SLA inspecting system. The data collection module is devided into several sub-modules as equipment static data collection sub-module, topology management data collection sub-module, SLA parameters management data collection sub-module, equipment management data collection sub-module and server management data collection sub-module. Every sub-module has its own content, scheduler and method of processing & storage. This dissertation designs and realizes an individual MIB data collection tool on the platform of Windows according to the need of SLA inspecting system. This dissertation also gives the test results of each sub-module in the network environment of University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (Shahe), then a joint debug for the whole data collection module and SLA inspecting system helps to achieve both the inspect and evaluation of SLA .Some other important issues during the process of design and realization are discussed as well.Finally, there is a summary of the work in this thesis and gives some opinions on the further study of the data collection platform.
