Network Topology Auto Discovery Method And Its Realization

Network topology discovery technology is a comprehensive network technology which is founded on network topological structure, network management models, network protocol and network layer topology discovery tools. It is one of the most important parts of modern network management. A correct mastering of network topological structure has direct effect on the normal running of network management and maintenance. This article takes the campus network of Sichuan Normal University as a studying environment, deeply analyzes the first three layers in network environment on the basis of existing theories and technology, tries to find a more attainable way to search all the network nodes on the first three layers and to discover their relations as well as keeping the integrity and correctness of network topology discovery.In this article, the author first introduces the backgrounds of current research on network topology discovery, and shows the importance of network topology discovery technology; then compares between domestic and foreign researching situation, illustrates the current research on link layer and physical layer nodes and puts emphasis on the discovery of link layer and physical layer nodes. Later, the author chiefly introduces the corresponding technologies of network topology discovery, including network management models, topological discovery methods and finds out a general method of discovery, and then according to this method realizes an algorithm to search all the network layer nodes. The author also deeply analyzes the structure of all the network layers, studies the connection between layer nodes. After a further deduction of the current and more advanced algorithm for network discovery, the author reaches an algorithm for discovering the relations between link layer nodes and speculating physical layer nodes to determine the connection between link layer nodes speculate physical layer nodes and judge the connective relations between link and physical layer nodes. This algorithm solves the problem of discovering the connection between network layer nodes in heterogeneous network environment. It can also quickly speculate physical layer nodes, which largely reduces the complexity of original algorithm and makes it easier to realize network topology discovery. According to the research results in this article, the author makes a testing program to verify the correctness and feasibility of the conclusion drown in this article in a real running network environment. In the end, this article gives some reason why topology discovery is incomplete and the way to solve it.
