With the development continuously of new technologies and businesses, it have improved rapidly that the network acts as an infrastructure of global information highway. The scale of network grows fast, all kinds of network equipments and applications upgrade frequently. The bandwidth of backbone, LAN and WLAN are increased some times. All of those accelerate enterprise to plan and administrate reasonably their networks. Network topology is the base of network administration. It is important for network resource planning, network fault analysis, QOS promotion. This thesis focuses on physical topology discovery mechanism in complex hybrid network environment. I offer the thinking of implementation and algorithm.The algorithm is divided into two parts of "switching style topology discovery algorithm" and "routing style topology discovery algorithm" according to difference in hierarchical network. Inside the switching style algorithm, we get information from LAN switch through SNMP and compute the topology by using algorithm that called "cross comparing and narrowing to compute topology among LAN switches" . Inside the routing style algorithm, we combined the algorithm of logic topology and direct topology. It reduces some complexity to deal with routing protocol. It is difficult to discover accurately network physical topology in large scale hybrid network. It is necessary to face the problem that the network is extending day by day. The thesis provides also some appendix solutions. Finally, a demo project will be given that I participated in. I will introduce the application of network physical topology discovery algorithm in real project and present the architecture and scheme.
