This thesis discusses the methods of data transmission in the context of Browser/Server architecture, especially for a prototype implementation of Rich Internet Applications based on the Socket real-time data transmission mode from Flex SDK. The data handling interfaces and structure optimization in design and implementation are also emphasized. On demand of development integration of the legacy network software and the emerging B/S based web applications, the major efforts of the paper focus on the analysis of data transmission methods of existing B/S based applications. With the pitfalls exposed in porting the legacy C/S based architecture, a novel solution has been studied. The solution is to introduce Flex Socket SDK based real-time asynchronous transmission modules into the B/S based architecture. On the solution basis, the design and implementation is reprensented on the key phases in the data transmission including the data formatting, marshalling, and the verification of data security. The local storage interface has also been designed and implemented according to the features of B/S based applications. Furthermore, since the requirements of the data transmission efficiency, the module has been optimized by customization of the render mechanism. The data processing performance has been verified with comparison data before and after optimization respectively.
