With the development of technology of image processing and data transmission,significant progress of video monitoring has been made as well.Video monitoring,with its characteristics of being direct,convenient,abundant information carrying,is being used broadly in modern society, and in return brings great convenience to people's work and daily life.As video monitoring system is being used in much broader areas,more advanced functions of it are being required.But the traditional video monitoring system cannot meet such a demand with lots of limitations such as easily affected by geographical position and surrounding environment,complex line distribution,inflexible system,unable to reflex the spot situation in time and accurately,high repair cost etc.This paper basically solves those above mentioned problems by designing a "wireless video monitoring system" based on the embedded technology of WinCE and GPRS network.Physically,the wireless video monitoring systemcan be divided into two parts--monitoring final and monitoring center.The monitoring final,composed of a development platform based on embedded WinCE.net,a video module by employing JPEG encoding compaction technology, shooting cameras of CCD image element and GPRS modern,is mainly responsible for on-site data collection,encoding compaction and wireless video-transmission of long distance on GPRS network.While the hardware of monitoring center,a PC,which is connected with Internet,is mainly used for sending commands to other modules and showing monitoring image from the on-site monitoring front.This paper starts with a brief introduction of historical development and current situation of wireless video monitoring system,following which it elaborates the related knowledge such as GPRS network technology,embedded operation system of WinCE.net,principles of main hardware and technology of JPEG image encoding compaction,and then it introduces the wireless video monitoring design in factories.Three parts of system software are involved in designing of the project,which are software at monitoring final,communication software at monitoring course,and software at monitoring center.Their main functions are as following respectively:the software at monitoring final is mainly responsible for video data collection on-site and encode compaction processing;the communication software at monitoring course is mainly used for the communication between monitoring final and monitoring center;the software at monitoring center is mainly responsible for the management of the whole monitoring system and showing the image and data collected by monitoring final.An application scenario in factory of wireless video monitoring system is also designed in this paper which makes the theoretical fruits into reality.At last,advantages and disadvantages of wireless video monitoring system are summarized and a future research direction is indicated.
