At present,telecommunications industry in China is developing fast,all kinds of advanced technologies are emerging to meet the people's need in communications business,specially in images,voice and data combination of multimedia services and high-speed data services.In the field of mobile communications,digital cellular technology represented by the 3rd generation mobile communication systems (including TD-SCDMA,WCDMA and CDMA2000)is the mainstream of the development of communication technology and research hot spots.TD-SCDMA system is the first international communication standard with independent intellectual property right in China history in communication,it's a landmark in China communication history.The core network of TD-SCDMA is based on GSM(Global System for Mobile Communications).WCDMA system is put forward by Europe and Japan,and its core network is also based on GSM.WCDMA is already very mature now.CDMA2000 is a standard proposed by the United States,it is evolved from the IS-95 narrow-band CDMA.Before the issuance of 3G licenses in China,the point discussed by the various domestic equipment manufacturers and operators is focused on the using of TD-SCDMA communication system or WCDMA communication systems after the reorganization of China's telecommunications industry in May 2008. After the reorganization,the China Mobile assumes the development of domestic 3G standard TD-SCDMA,and the new Unicom will be the director for the development in GSM,it will carry out research and development in WCDMA.HSUPA(High Speed Uplink Packet Access)is proposed after the completion of HSDPA(High Speed Downlink Packet Access),it is the uplink evolution technology in 3G system,can meet the high need in high-speed data services,particularly in the mobile internet business,interactive games,mobile video,and telephone conferences. This technology is raised earliest in the R6 version of WCDMA,and then in the TD-SCDMA R7 version is also introduced.HSUPA technology can provide a data access services with up to5.76Mbit/s by using some key technologies such as more flexible scheduling in Node B,the physical layer hybrid ARQ,more high-order adaptive modulation coding,rate control,as well as power control.The speed is far more than the original 3G system which can reach a maximum speed up to 2Mbit/s.This paper focuses on the research and simulation on the HSUPA technology of TD-SCDMA and WCDMA.At first,the paper gives a brief introduction about the standardization of both systems,and then gives a description on the physical layer characteristics about HSUPA,then makes MATLAB simulations on the key technologies combining with the agreements of 3GPP,they are the fast control based on Node B,HARQ(Hybrid Automatic Repeat Request)and AMC(Adaptive Modulation Coding).Through the analysis of the simulation results,the paper shows the importance of these key technologies in improving system performance.The paper also sets up a HSUPA link layer simulation platform by ADS software,making simulations on missed detected rate of the physical channel E-HICH(E-DCH HARQ Acknowledgement Indicator Channel)and the maximum output power of HSUPA, gets the physical channel and power characteristics of HSUPA too.All these results give support and data for system simulation.This paper also makes comparison in the frame structure,modulation,interference control,scheduling control,HARQ,as well as network planning,and gives a brief introduction in HSPA+and LTE(Long Term Evolution)which are the further evolution of HSUPA technology.This paper studies the physical layer characteristics and key technologies of the uplink evolution technology HSUPA in WCDMA and TD-SCDMA communication systems.The simulation results of the key technologies of HSUPA can be used as reference or test between the other results made by different simulation software from some companies.The simulation on HSUPA link layer by ADS is special,the simulation results of missed detected rate of physical channel and the maximum output power of the system can not only provide data support for system simulation, but also can be used as some channel characteristics reference in network planning.
