Davinci Technology-based Image Compression System

The image of CCD includes abundant information and contents, it has obvious function in the fields of military, aviation and astronomy, but huge data quantity has blocked the extensive application of CCD aerial digital camera, so researching efficient image compression system become inevitable.JPEG Standard is a mature image compression technology.It has the advantage of high compress rate with little rate distortion and high run-time speed,it is easy to implement and is applicable to a large field.It has been widely supported since the last teen years when it became international standard.The platform of compression application is base on TMS320DM6446. The davinci technology integrated an ARM core and a C64x+ DSP core into one sillicon; it improves the system integration, lowers the board level cost and improves dual-core coordination operation efficiency.After studying the latest Davinci technology of Texas Instrument (TI), this thesis. According to trait of the dual-core processor, the image compression system are presented.The thesis related to Davinci technology hardware architecture, software architecture and linux application design.The hardware system design involves DDR2 dynamic memory interface design, Flash Memory Interface Design, ATA hard disk interface, Ethernet interface, USB interface, UART interface and power supply system design. In this paper, the various components of the hardware system's functions and features are also introduced in detail.At the beginning of embedded system design, the Host-side that is for DM6446 ARM-side Cross-compile environment were set up. Then aeeording to the booting Regulations of the DM6446, The Bootloader Programme and the kernel of Linux Operating System were designed. At last, the design of JPEG codec running on Linux operating system.
