With the continuous improvement of the speed of embedded processor and the increasing functionality of embedded systems, embedded systems are more and more intend to be applied in the network audio and video processing field. In order to use the embedded system to develop the network audio and video applications, developers must have to design an embedded system, which can quickly and efficiently handle the audio and video data, and also to build complex and diverse algorithms library for audio and video processing. At present, the embedded network audio and video applications have become a hot research issue. In this case, Texas Instruments Corporation introduces DaVinci solutions for embedded network audio and video applications. DaVinci technology provides developers with the embedded network processor solutions which are based network audio and video applications, allowing developers to avoid the complexity of hardware architecture and a variety of audio and video algorithms in embedded audio and video application field. And finally the developers can directly focus on the product applications.The paper introduces an embedded system based on DaVinci technology for network audio and video applications,which can be used in the network media applications such as network video monitoring, streaming media server and etc.The system uses TMS320DM6446 SoC microprocessor which belongs to the DaVinci processor family.The hardware components of the system are divided into two parts: minimum system board and expansion board. Minimum system board contains a microprocessor, power supply modules, DDR2 memory, NOR Flash and JTag debug port; expansion board contains a network module, serial module, audio and video processing module, and USB2.0 module.The embedded system uses U-Boot as boot loader program and Linux as operating system. U-Boot and Linux are open source and have a rich range of community support to facilitate the modification of its source code and the transplant work.
