With the advent of the great achievements of China's reform and big change of China's economy,Chinese enterprises are faced with new problems---what are the drives and capabilities for further development.Meanwhile,it is broadly asserted that the effective use of information technology(IT) can help enterprises improve the operation efficiency and increase competitive advantages.As the first step of IT implementation in enterprises,IT adoption is of utmost importance to guarantee the success of the implementation.From 1980s on,the researches about IT adoption have been very popular in the intemational academic communities.A lot of key factors and process characteristics influencing the IT adoption are found out on the individual or organizational level within the past 30 years,but most of those findings are based on micro factors,and few of those are related to macro factors.This paper's objective is to try to depict and explain the macro pathway of IT adoption in the Chinese manufacturing enterprises,from a historical view.Firstly,this paper imposes a research framework,based on two environmental factors:technology availability and government policy.Secondly,with the help of multiple case studies on nine Chinese manufacturing enterprises,this paper concludes the enterprise IT adoption's macro pathway and its features.Thirdly,this paper discusses how the technology availability and government policy influence the enterprise IT adoption macro pathway.Finally,all the findings are concluded.The topic of IT adoption is quite new in China,and so is the research on the macro pathway of enterprise IT adoption.This paper is just the first step in this field,and so it possesses a certain extent of academic and practical values.
