VOD service is a kind of service which provides real time audio and video service to the customer based on the streaming technology. Due to the advantage of real time, VOD service is very popular since its inception. In recent years, it has been developed very quickly because of the popularization of Internet.At present, most VOD services are based on C/S architecture. This kind of architecture is relatively simple and effective in the situation of small group of users. But with the growth of the user number, this kind of architecture has the following disadvantage: with the growth of user number, the server number must grow together which means great investment for ISP; the centralized server group put a lot of pressure on the network and it can cause the downgrading of service quality. In order to solve all these problems, this paper introduces a kind of VOD system based on P2P Kademlia network.Nowadays, the research and development of P2P streaming VOD is a attractive field, this paper's work designs and develops a novel VOD system based on P2P Kademlia network protocol. Firstly, This paper introduces the routing and searching algorithm ofP2P KAD network itself. And then we describe the P2P VOD system architecture based on KAD network. Based on the novel architecture, we propose the improvement algorithm of routing and searching mechanism in P2P streaming VOD architecture, including the node joining, media resource publishes, media resource searching and node leaving mechanism. The implementation scheme and contrast experiment proves that this novel algorithm and solution can support the node routing and maintenance in the P2P network efficiently and can improve the robust and scalability of the novel P2P VOD system. At the end, we analyze the prospective research direction and challenges in this field.
