With the development of Internet technology and the speed of access, users no longer meet the expectations and demands in a single static media. Applications of streaming media become the new demand of user. In the traditional client/server mode, the server often becomes the bottleneck due to the requirements of high bandwidth and long duration of streaming media. How to distribute streaming media content to a large number of hosts in a scalable way has become the key issue of multimedia research field in the last decade. At present, streaming media distribution methods of research is mainly concentrated in the application layer multicast. A variety of application-layer multicast programmes need to build a scalable, support for fault-tolerant overlay network between the node involvements. And P2P networks that belong to research in the field of application layer overlayer networks, because of its good scalability, support for load balancing and node dynamic join and leave, and other benefits, is a good foundation platform for the realization of application-layer multicast. Thus P2P network technology will be introduced into the application layer multicast of streaming media, and P2P-based streaming media distribution programmed become hot spots of the streaming media distribution technology research. However, P2P network technology itself is still in the development stage, now mainly research concentrated in the structured pure P2P networks what using distributed hash table (DHT) technology. Since the DHT is base on the certainty of topological structure, it has strong routing guidance, and strong control of the data and nodes. But DHT technology still has some inadequate technical, such as: resist the network disturbance, efficiency of lookup etc.In this paper research start at the data distribution architecture of application layer multicast, analysed the impact of various application layer multicast programmes, P2P network technology be introduced into the application layer multicast, and the DHT-based structured P2P networks has be platforms of the application-layer multicast. Kademlia algorithm has be used to control nodes join and leave, and the resources publish and lookup. This paper analyses the impact of Kademlia algorithm implementation of a variety of factors. Based on the analyses, RTT-Kademlia improvement programme was proposed. This paper based on this improvement programme, designed and implemented infrastructure of a RTT-Kademlia-based overlay network. By simulation the performance of the standard Kademlia and RTT-Kademlia overlay network was compared, in areas such as the routing table space occupancy, network load etc. The test results indicate that, attributed to the use of improved programme, time of lookup is shorter and efficiency of lookup is improved.
