Internet technology is developing on a significantly high level in the last decade, as well as the broadband of individual families. As a result of these developments, there come various new services of internet. VOD service is one of these products that has become the major services of internet. However, traditional streaming system can't follow the dramatically increasing user amount which always leads to fast consumption of servers' resources. In this case, it should be a lot of sense that utilizing P2P streaming system in large scale media streaming can disperse stress or load of servers.Firstly, this paper studied several current technologies related to P2P streaming and described the main research content, key technologies, achievements and innovation of this research. Secondly, it gave a more detail description of these key technologies, such as: Pull-mode filters based on DirectShow, policies to segment media files, buffer technologies of segments, weighted speed definition for classifying peers and the algorithm of segment selecting download. In addition, we implemented a proto-type player of P2P streaming VOD system using these technologies, compared and analyzed the actual performance of this proto type. Finally, it summarized the research content and put out some future research directions. As a result of this research, P2P streaming VOD player based on Pull-mode filters has a greatly universal property and extensibility. Furthermore, comparing with central server based VOD systems, it can efficiently lighten servers load and ensure fast distribution and sequence of media contents.
