Field-bus covered almost all industrial fields. Nowadays, Field- bus is towards to the direction of decentralized and networked in industrial control systems; it would become a pop global industrial automation technology. Traditional instruments are often used alone, so that they can't be used to build control system. With the development of field-bus technology, it will be an inevitable trend to build intelligent nodes and industrial instrumentation network.This paper describes the monitoring and controlling of CAN bus network, and introduces PIC18F4580 microcontroller, in which embeded CAN module. PIC18F4580 microcontroller serverd as a core component of an intelligent instrument, and all hardware designs and software designs are based on it. In this design, we apply the PIC18F4580 microcontroller into the intelligent instruments system firstly. It builds a measuring and controlling system which carries out a node-to-multi-node CAN bus two-way communications. In the design of communicating upper computer with lower computers (or microprocessors), any computer or PIC microprocessor can send or receive data and any microprocessors can communicate with upper computer. And fulfillment of communication is based on serial interface which is integrated in upper computer and PIC microprocessor. Because of this framework, the instrument possesses intelligentized and networked characteristics. The instruments system has many merits, such as simple structure, small size, high reliability and stability, lower costs, ease to use, applying flexibility and fully using of limited resources and space in instruments. All of these merits increase market competitiveness and achieve digital communications between control room and field equipment. It will speed up the instruments applying process of intelligentizing and standardization.
